FACTS

Owlchemy Labs, developer of VR hits like Job Simulator and Vacation Simulator, has announced a new VR game. In Dimensional Double Shift, a cooperative VR game, you work in an omnidimensional diner.

You can now start your career as a VR service employee at the Gas N' Grill for free. The open beta of Dimensional Double Shift, called the "Trainee Program", has been available for Meta Quest 3, Quest 2, and Quest Pro since September 26, 2024. You can find the link to join at the end of the article.

Dimensional Double Shift relies entirely on hand tracking and is controlled without a VR controller. Up to four friends can team up and enjoy Owlchemy's signature wicked humor and vibrant VR worlds. The Trainee Program is the first of many planned content updates for Dimensional Double Shift. These will regularly add new dimensions, game activities and features.

In Dimensional Double Shift, you work together to run a combination workshop and diner in a variety of dimensions across the omniverse. You will cook, repair, refuel, burn, soak, and serve the bizarre inhabitants of each dimension. Along the way, you'll earn rewards and advance your career with Conglomni Corp. approved promotional items.

CONTEXT

Owlchemy Labs focuses on innovative hand tracking

Job Simulator and Vacation Simulator have each sold over a million copies, making them a huge commercial success for Owlchemy Labs. The studio was acquired by Google in 2017 and is constantly trying to translate the interactivity of VR into humorous games of skill in the most innovative way possible.

Owlchemy Labs was an early adopter of hand tracking, as they believe that using your own body as a controller makes VR easier to access and makes the games more intuitive. With Cosmonious High, Owlchemy Labs finally released a VR game in 2022 that relies entirely on hand tracking. This experience is now likely to have been incorporated into the development of Dimensional Double Shift.
