Brink XR uses photogrammetry to create walkable, photorealistic duplicates of real places. High-resolution aerial imagery from drones is combined with ground-based imagery from tripod cameras.

The VR app currently offers more than 40 3D environments with a movement radius of a few meters. Although it is not possible to hike, the VR app is ideal for relaxation or meditation, which is why it is now being used in therapy.

The latest update for Brink Traveler was released yesterday and takes you to the Turkish region of Cappadocia, which is known for its fairy chimneys, ancient cave dwellings and hot air balloon rides.

Worth a virtual trip

I took a look at the new environments and recorded a video of my impressions.

The new destination consists of two spots: a typical Cappadocian landscape at sunrise, the sky gradually filled with hot air balloons, and a cave that looks so real that you are tempted to touch the walls with your hands.

Like all places, the surroundings can be admired at night. Sitting quietly at night and looking out of the cave at the surrounding landscape, as the creators of these caves did 1300 years ago, is a wonderful way to enjoy virtual reality.

Already three months old, but also worth a visit, is a picturesque viewpoint in Greece overlooking Navagio Beach. The beach itself, including the wreck, was added as a destination in October 2023.

Next stop: Iceland

The developers are heading to Iceland next month to capture new locations for Brink Traveler. The studio writes on Discord that it has been working behind the scenes on a number of updates that will make it easier to release new locations at shorter intervals. Cappadocia, Greece and all other destinations added since launch are free bonus content.
