FACTS

The Burst is now available for Meta Quest 3, Quest 2, Quest Pro and PC-VR on Steam. In this action-packed VR game, you must use a huge arsenal of weapons to take down a variety of crazy and angry enemies in a dangerous post-apocalyptic world. In an interview, the developers give an insight into the world of The Burst and what to expect.

A mix of Spider-Man, Mad Max & Titanfall

"The Burst is what happens when Spider-Man meets Mad Max and Titanfall in VR. Our game is all about speed, shootouts, explosions, and violence. Fast, furious, challenging and encouraging creativity." says producer Anna Glukhova.

The story takes place in the distant future on a planet that has been turned into a penal colony by a nuclear bombardment. As a special agent, you are sent to Damag to prevent an uprising after one of the space bridges supplying the prisoners is destroyed. Scriptwriter Helen Megrabyan says a typical playthrough takes about five to six hours.

The Burst places great emphasis on an extensive arsenal of weapons. "The Burst has an incredible and vast arsenal. This includes SMGs, shotguns, revolvers, assault rifles, sniper rifles, flamethrowers — you name it, we have it!" says Dmitriy Khabarov, Lead Game Designer. More weapons will be added in the future.

OPINION

Wait and see

With The Burst, the young VR studio GoRapid delivers a promising action game in a post-apocalyptic setting. Inspired by genre greats like Half-Life: Alyx and Titanfall, as well as movies like Mad Max, The Burst aims to impress with fast-paced gameplay, a gripping atmosphere and varied locations.

Combined with a huge arsenal of weapons, a dark story set in a believable game world, the game has the potential to excite VR action fans — if the announcements are implemented accordingly.

Whether or not The Burst lives up to expectations will become clear in the coming days, once we have played the title and more user reviews are available. The Burst is currently rated "mixed" on Steam, and Quest users have given it 3.5 stars. The technical state of the game is being criticized in particular, which has already prompted the developers to issue a statement on Reddit. There seems to be plenty of room for improvement.
