Kayak VR: Mirage gets it largest and most impressive environment yet, out now on PSVR 2 and Steam
Kayak VR: Mirage is considered one of the most beautiful PSVR 2 games. The Soča Valley DLC adds a large new environment with whitewater rapids.
The first DLC for Kayak: VR Mirage takes you to a digital recreation of Slovenia's Soča Valley, known for its iconic green water, mountain vistas and lush nature.
The studio has listened to the wishes of its fans and implemented whitewater rapids for the first time.
"When we first started off we wanted something that would incorporate feedback from our roadmap and would blow you away. This led us to whitewater, which our current water system could not do in a satisfying way. So we had to switch to a new water system with all the complications that it brings to the physics, visuals etc.," the studio wrote on Discord. "We were also expanding the scope and scale multiple times when we thought of cool new things to add. But then performance issues would rear their ugly head and we’d have to keep adjusting, tweaking and refining. We hope you can see the work and love that went into Soča Valley as we tried to be as ambitious as possible."
In addition to the more challenging whitewater sections, there are also many quiet passages where you can sit back and enjoy the view of the valley.
The VR game now features upper-body IK that simulates a torso, arms, and hands, further enhancing immersion. The studio has also fixed bugs and tweaked the graphics, and the game now looks a bit sharper on PSVR 2.
Kayak VR: Mirage and the Soča Valley DLC are available on the Playstation Store and from next week the VR game will be part of the PS Plus Premium catalog. The Steam version also received the DLC.
Multiplayer mode could be coming next
Kayak VR: Mirage was released on Steam in 2022, and was a launch title for Playstation VR 2 the following year. Since then, fans have been waiting for new environments and features.
Soča Valley is the fifth environment for Kayak VR: Mirage and, according to the studio, the biggest and graphically most impressive yet. And more could come soon.
"We promise you won’t have to wait as long for a future update as we have more in the pipeline that we hope to show in the next few months," the team writes on Discord.
