EA Sports WRC is getting a VR mode on PC this month
The racing game EA Sports WRC will soon get a VR mode, which will be delivered as a free update. But only for PC.
Codemasters reveals details about Season 4 of the racing game and announces a VR mode coming to the PC version at the end of April. A trailer for the new season shows first gameplay footage from the VR version.
"Built using OpenXR technology, VR in EA SPORTS WRC adds a new dimension and level of immersion to your rally experience; we will share more details and a final release date once the work is completed, tested and a release is scheduled," writes Codemasters.
The VR mode will be released as a free update. The game costs $50 on Steam.
EA Sports WRC: A solid rally racing game
EA Sports WRC was released on November 3, 2023 for PC, Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
It has the official license of the World Rally Championship and features 78 rally cars and 18 WRC rallies. You can create and customize your own rally cars with the Car Builder. The multiplayer mode supports up to 32 players.
The game has a score of 80 on Metacritic, user reviews on Steam are "Mixed".
Codemasters ignores Playstation VR 2 – again
Although the game is also available for Playstation 5, Codemasters has not announced a PSVR 2 version. The same goes for the F1 racing series, also developed by Codemasters: F1 22, F1 23 and F1 24, which will be released in May, support PC VR but not Playstation VR 2. A missed opportunity on Codemasters' part, especially since Gran Turismo proved how great racing games can be on Sony's VR headset.
With Sony is working on PC VR support, it may be possible to play EA Sports WRC on PC with PSVR 2. A small consolation for PS5 gamers without a gaming PC.
