Meta will delete Oculus accounts soon: What you need to do now to save your VR apps
Oculus accounts will soon be history: at the end of March, you will need to permanently switch to Meta accounts to continue using your Quest VR headsets.
If you haven't used your Quest VR headset in a while and haven't created a Meta account, you need to act now. Meta has announced that they will be deleting all Oculus accounts by March 29, 2024. After that date, you will no longer be able to use Meta Quest or Quest 2 with an Oculus account. At the same time, you will lose access to your apps, in-app purchases, credits, achievements, friends lists, and any content created with your Oculus accounts.
To avoid this, you must migrate to a Meta account before the deadline. According to Meta, all you need to do is log in to the authentication website (see link below) using the email address associated with your Oculus account. Meta accounts have put an end to the unpleasant Facebook obligation
The introduction of Meta Quest 2 in October 2020 marked the slow demise of Oculus accounts. Back then, Meta introduced a Facebook account requirement for the use of Quest VR headsets. After a transition period until the end of 2022, support for Oculus accounts finally ended.
Anyone who had not linked an active Facebook account to their VR headset by then would have to accept limited functionality. Meta finally ended the unpleasant Facebook obligation by introducing separate Meta accounts in 2022. Since then, Meta accounts can be used as an alternative to Facebook accounts to operate Quest headsets.
