Will Final Fury finally bring a real fighting game to VR?
Final Fury is set to be a true VR fighting game like Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat or Tekken for Quest and SteamVR. Find out more about the release date, characters, open beta and gameplay.
Kluge Interactive's Final Fury is a competitive VR fighting game inspired by arcade classics like Street Fighter. Find out how the fighting game works in virtual reality and when you can play it yourself.
Final Fury gameplay — How does the VR fighting game work?
Although Final Fury is based on classic fighting games, you play from a first-person perspective rather than the side-on view of Tekken, Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter. Usually, you see only the fists of your fighters, who switch to a third-person view for certain attacks.
While firing your attacks, you must dodge or block enemy maneuvers with directed movements that appear in front of you like targets. Special moves, such as rotating your arms, activate your attacks.
To see exactly what this looks like, take a look at the Final Fury gameplay trailer below.
Final Fury has a single player mode in which you lead each character to victory in a tournament. This probably plays like the classic arcade mode you know from other fighting games.
There is also a 1v1 mode, a training mode and a competitive multiplayer mode. What these will look like and if there will be a ranking system is not yet known.
Final Fury comes with eight different characters
Eight different fighters are planned for Final Fury, of which only the following have been revealed so far:
- Tempest has ice attacks.
- Niko has mechanical fists and electric attacks.
- Valdan attacks with demonic blades and dark magic.
- Lida's hair resembles the sting of a scorpion, and she can summon scarabs.
- Gaia is a Viking that uses the forces of nature.
- Glitch is a robot with laser attacks and bombs.
We still have to wait for the last two characters to be revealed. However, you can already see their silhouettes in the image above. Each character also has its own arena.
Final Fury: Release date and open beta
Final Fury does not yet have an official release date, but an open beta has been announced for early 2024. You can register for the open beta on the Final Fury website.
The full version and beta will run on the Meta Quest platform and via SteamVR. It is not yet known which VR headsets will support Final Fury. However, it can be assumed that Final Fury will run on the Quest 3. Kluge Interactive CEO Arturo Perez wants to bring Final Fury to all VR platforms. A PSVR 2 release might follow later.
