Pimax: New Play software beta, 3D print files for VR headsets, and Dream Air event teaser

Pimax just dropped a new beta version of its Play software, released fresh 3D print files for its VR headsets, and is gearing up for a live Dream Air announcement. Here’s what’s new and what to watch for.

FACTS

Pimax has rolled out beta version 1.39.2 of its Play software, bringing a handful of quality-of-life improvements. The headline update: an optimized installation process designed to streamline setup for new users. Owners of the original Crystal headset now get a perk — your headset’s serial number can be used as a discount voucher for Pimax Prime, but only when purchasing the Crystal Super.

This update also addresses some persistent bugs. For Crystal Super users, the new version fixes a distortion issue that cropped up on PCs that had previously run a Crystal Light. If you’re on the original Crystal, a frustrating freezing bug (seen in version 1.39) has reportedly been ironed out.

Crystal Super: Firmware updates and ongoing bugs

The Crystal Super isn’t being left out of the update cycle. Its firmware has been bumped to version 1.0.5, which Pimax says should mean better audio quality out of the box. This release is just the first in a planned series of bug-fixing updates for the Crystal Super.

Alongside the software drop, Pimax published a running list of known issues with its flagship headset. The main headaches right now: auto IPD adjustment isn’t always accurate, some VR games display overly saturated colors, and the audio still lags behind the original Crystal in terms of quality.

Dream Air: Live event incoming

Outside of software, Pimax has also pushed out new 3D print files for its headsets, covering accessories like the Crystal Super and Crystal Light Lighthouse faceplates. And for anyone following Pimax’s hardware roadmap, mark your calendar — there’s a Pimax Connect event scheduled for May 11. Expect a YouTube Live session with fresh details about the ultra-slim Pimax Dream Air VR headset.
